About Us
Every life deserves room to care.
Our Story
It started with one story, and grew into a movement built on empathy.
Room to Care originated with a simple concept: empathy can be taught, and education should engage the heart as much as it does the mind.
Our founder, Scott Burch, spent several years working in corporate education and creative development on training programs that helped individuals build connections, develop, and lead. However, after working on human trafficking awareness for Motel 6, something changed. This work revealed the power of human stories and how a message could change behaviors not based on fear or data but on empathy.
That was a transformative experience, which he had a firsthand realization that although businesses will invest in skill-building, they hardly invest in empathy-building, which is what is needed in this world.
From this awakening, Room to Care was conceptualized with a goal to establish a non-profit that would design education-oriented story-telling projects to engage and motivate individuals to respond in a different manner,
planting the first seeds for bringing this vision to fruition. Of course, it began with one individual working late nights and weekends trying to juggle a family and this ever-growing dream for this new programming opportunity that might change how individuals tackle difficult societal issues. From this one programming opportunity, Through Their Eyes blossomed into a seedling for something much bigger: a movement to humanize training, revamp awareness, and provide a voice for victims and advocates.

Fast forward to 2025, and this vision was finally realized in the official formation of an organization. Scott is now starting to build his Board of Directors with a team of individuals who are professionals, experts, and supporters all with the same belief—that compassion should inform how we educate and lead. They worked collectively to develop Room to Care into what it is today, a nonprofit working on producing story-centered programs that translate empathy into actions on various issues affecting mankind such as trafficking, abuse, and work-related issues. Room to Care is built on experience, expertise, and a deep conviction that the only way to combat indifference is through understanding. Our story begins with one individual's call, but it is now a journey we all share. Room to Care is powered by collaboration, compassion, and a determination to see caring become the rule, not the exception.

The Power of "We"
Every movement begins with one voice. But lasting change only happens when others join in.

Each movement begins with one voice. Change only unfolds if other voices weave together with the first one.
Room to Care may be the initial vision of one individual, but it has expanded through collaboration – through the belief that if empathy is encouraged among many, it will be an incredibly powerful transformation engine.
But today, our mission is carried forward in a way that is fueled by an increasing number of people who care deeply about it: our Board of Directors, who bring us experience and wisdom; our creative partners who help us turn vision into visual storytelling; and our experts and survivors who bring truth and courage to every story we tell.
Everyone has a role in something bigger, proving that compassion multiplies when shared. Together, we’ve built more than an organization; instead, we’ve built a sense of community that is centered in trust, transparency, and heart.
We each come from different backgrounds – education & hospitality, healthcare, media and storytelling, and the world of survivors – but our intentions are the same: to build a space ‘where stories lead to understanding, understanding leads to action, and action leads to change’.
The strength of Room to Care lies not with one thought or one individual. It lies within us. Within people who know that caring is anything but weakness; it is leadership.

From the Heart of
Room To Care
When I started designing learning initiatives 15+ years ago, I certainly didn’t see myself here today, with the mission to start this nonprofit that exists wholly on the principles of empathy and compassion for others. But somewhere down the line, after designing training programs for the corporate world time and time again, something struck me; we are living in a world that has trained people to do something, but not to understand each other.
But that insight didn't feel right to me.
The more projects I got to work on that addressed real issues people cared about (particularly the work with Motel 6 about raising awareness surrounding human trafficking), the more difficult it was to compartmentalize and separate my job from my feelings. It became clear that understanding what someone else was going through was incredibly powerful when people really got it.
Rather than going back to corporate America, I made a choice. I wanted to build something that was more important to me than numbers and results. Something that would allow me to use creativity, education, and storytelling in such a way that compassion becomes part of how we work, lead, and live. That’s how Room to Care was born.
Each story that gets shared with someone, each program that gets designed, each conversation that gets started has one belief as its roots. Empathy must never be optional. This project has been so personal to me because I’ve seen what can happen if there is no empathy… and what can be possible if there isn’t. Thank you for believing in this mission, in the value of care, and for helping to build a world with a little more room for understanding.

What We Do
Room to Care provides story-based education that builds connections between hearts and minds.
We don't just make learning content; instead, we build experiences that people retain with them even after the learning process is over. Through storytelling, expertise, and collaboration with survivors, we create experiences that engage with challenging truths about the human condition and mobilize people to take action and connect with each other. The intersection of education and emotional experiences, because learning should be a call to action, not an imposition.
Our projects include:
Cinematic Training Programs
Emotionally immersive learning experiences crafted with the care of a documentary and the soul of a conversation.
Industry-Specific Modules
Modules that provide industry-specific content to hospitality, healthcare providers, education institutions, and transportation services. These enable teams to understand and respond to the needs that exist within these industries and among
Collaborative Storytelling
Working with survivors, advocates, and professionals to use storytelling responsibly to increase awareness about prevention.
Organizational Partnerships & Training Initiatives
Collaboration with companies, non-profit groups, and other organizations to organize training sessions that are based on empathy to improve understanding and cultural responsibility.
Everything that we make has one thing in common.
To remind people that compassion is something that is not a luxury but a responsibility.
Our Core Values
These are the principles that every story we tell and every partnership that we build is founded upon.

Empathy
We come to every project with the intention to see the world from someone else’s perspective. Understanding drives change, and change drives understanding.
Integrity
Every story that gets shared, every survivor that gets supported, deserves respect. We prioritize truth over convenience and dignity over drama.
Education
Knowledge teaches; however, emotional engagement transforms learning. At our company, our projects combine knowhow with emotional insights to ensure learning has meaning.
Collaboration
We believe in partnering with others, rather than working for them. Partnering with others means that every project is authentic and affirming of our shared humanity.
Hope
Hard stories need light. We believe that awareness must lead to empowerment and that despair is no destination. Hope is the bridge that spans pain to purpose.

At the heart of Room to Care is the idea that every story, no matter how painful, holds the potential for something better.
We use storytelling to awaken rather than to shock. We use storytelling to enlighten rather than to exploit.
What we do is to bridge the gap that exists between understanding and action. The problem with awareness is that it rings hollow without empathy. What we are creating has the potential to impact how people look at each other and to make compassion more practical.
Each frame, each word, each moment is designed with connectivity in mind—to the end that someone might pause, consider, and then note, “I never realized that… but now I do.”
This is the essence of what we do – the use of our storytelling abilities to remind the world that caring is not something that you feel; it is something that you do.
