Why Through Their Eyes Was Built This Way

The gap between what people think trafficking looks like and what it actually is costs lives. Through Their Eyes was built to close that gap, survivor by survivor, module by module. Here's why every decision behind it matters.

Building Something That Listens First

Room To Care has been building quietly. We partnered with the Rebecca Bender Initiative and New Friends New Life to reach human trafficking survivors willing to share their experiences for Through Their Eyes. Eight people sat down with us. Their voices are shaping the program as it moves toward production. We also want to be transparent about our fundraising and what we need next. This is a full update on where we are and where we're headed.

When Digital Spaces Stop Being Safe

The internet changed childhood forever. It opened doors for creativity, community, and connection. But it also opened doors for people who exploit children in ways families never anticipated. Parents juggle work, school, and life. They trust platforms that appear safe, believing that built-in controls and “kid friendly” labels shield their children from harm. But what happens when safety systems give a false sense of security?

Words Matter When Harm Is Involved

Words shape how we understand responsibility. When trafficking-related terms are misused or misunderstood, victims are harmed and accountability becomes inconsistent. This post explores why legal definitions matter, what statistics tell us about the scale of trafficking globally and in the U.S., why misuse damages victims, and how survivor-informed education depends on clarity.

When Victims Speak and No One Listens

Coming forward as a victim of exploitation takes extraordinary courage. When those voices are dismissed, ignored, or sidelined, the harm does not end. It deepens. This post explores the emotional and systemic impact of not being heard, why trust in institutions erodes when accountability fails, and why survivor-centered systems are essential to preventing future harm.

Why Vulnerability Is Rarely an Accident

Vulnerability is rarely accidental. It is created over time when support is missing, information is unclear, and options begin to narrow. This post explores how vulnerability forms, why it matters for human trafficking prevention, and how this understanding shapes the way we are building Through Their Eyes. It also explains why donations and sponsorships help make this education possible.

How Your Support Builds Room To Care

Room To Care is now accepting individual donations, corporate support, and sponsorships as we begin development on our first program, Through Their Eyes. After funding the work personally up to this point, we are now inviting the community to help build a sustainable foundation. This post explains why funding matters now, how donations create real impact, and how supporters can be part of what comes next.

Climbing the Hill: An Honest Update on Our Growth

Building a nonprofit isn’t just about a mission; it’s about the "unseen work" that makes that mission safe and sustainable. We’ve officially submitted our first two grant LOIs and opened up individual giving on our site. We’re in that "middle space" of waiting on final state certificates, but the engine is already running. We’ve traded "founder grit" for "organizational structure," and it’s the best move we’ve ever made for the survivors we serve. The foundation is set. Now, we build.
