Climbing the Hill: An Honest Update on Our Growth
Building a nonprofit isn’t just about a mission; it’s about the "unseen work" that makes that mission safe and sustainable. We’ve officially submitted our first two grant LOIs and opened up individual giving on our site. We’re in that "middle space" of waiting on final state certificates, but the engine is already running. We’ve traded "founder grit" for "organizational structure," and it’s the best move we’ve ever made for the survivors we serve. The foundation is set. Now, we build.

There is a misconception that nonprofit work is just a series of high-impact moments and emotional breakthroughs. In reality, the most important work often happens in the quiet, unglamorous hours spent on legal compliance, financial forecasting, and operational structure.
Lately, Room To Care has been climbing the hill of "becoming."
Moving from Vision to Operation
I’ve always committed to transparency with this community, and that means sharing the logistics as well as the wins. Currently, we are in a transitional phase that every growing organization must navigate:
The Paperwork: We are currently waiting on the final Tax Exempt Certificate from the Texas Comptroller.
The Action: While the state processes that file, we aren't sitting still. We have already secured our federal 501(c)(3) status and registered with industry gold-standards like TechSoup, Goodstack, and GiveButter.
Waiting on a government office isn't a "pause"—it’s an opportunity. We are using this time to "harden" our internal systems. We are finalizing the contracts and internal documents that protect survivor dignity and ensure our storytelling remains ethically beyond reproach. We are building the budget models that ensure every dollar you give is used with maximum efficiency.
The Momentum You Can See
If you want to know if we’re moving, look at our recent milestones:
Grant Readiness: We have officially submitted our first two Letters of Interest (LOIs) for foundational grants. This marks our move into the world of institutional funding.
Individual Giving: Our donation portal at roomtocare.com/donate is officially live. This is a major step in building a grassroots engine that allows us to remain independent and bold.
Capacity Building: We are currently designing a non-paid internship program. We aren't just looking for "help"—we are looking to mentor the next generation of advocates who believe in modern, high-quality production for social good.
Why We Are Showing You the "Studs"
We could wait until everything is "perfect" to share an update, but that’s not how trust is built. We are showing you the studs of the house before the drywall goes up because we want you to know that this organization is built to last. We are moving forward with precision, intentionality, and a refusal to cut corners.
The hill is steep, but the view from the top—where Through Their Eyes is fully funded and operational—is going to be worth every spreadsheet and every filing fee.
Thank you for climbing with us.

When Digital Spaces Stop Being Safe
The internet changed childhood forever. It opened doors for creativity, community, and connection. But it also opened doors for people who exploit children in ways families never anticipated. Parents juggle work, school, and life. They trust platforms that appear safe, believing that built-in controls and “kid friendly” labels shield their children from harm. But what happens when safety systems give a false sense of security?

Words Matter When Harm Is Involved
Words shape how we understand responsibility. When trafficking-related terms are misused or misunderstood, victims are harmed and accountability becomes inconsistent. This post explores why legal definitions matter, what statistics tell us about the scale of trafficking globally and in the U.S., why misuse damages victims, and how survivor-informed education depends on clarity.

When Victims Speak and No One Listens
Coming forward as a victim of exploitation takes extraordinary courage. When those voices are dismissed, ignored, or sidelined, the harm does not end. It deepens. This post explores the emotional and systemic impact of not being heard, why trust in institutions erodes when accountability fails, and why survivor-centered systems are essential to preventing future harm.
